Day One: Glasgow/Edinburgh – Isle of Skye
After we collect you at 0800 from your Glasgow/Edinburg accommodation we’ll head North! Blackness Castle is first stop, often referred to as ‘the ship that never sailed’ because of its resemblance to a stone ship! You’ll then visit the regal Linlithgow Palace, the domineering castle of Doune Castle and grab a bite to eat in the tranquil town of Pitlochry which boasts many lochs and forests for you to explore. As you journey towards Inverness there are many magnificent sights to see, such as Loch Ness, Inverness Castle and Eilean Donan Castle. You will then be dropped off at your accommodation in the colourful village of Portree on the Isle of Skye where you reflect on your days adventure in preparation of your next day ahead.
Day Two: Isle of Skye – Lewis and Harris
On your second day you will leave your accommodation in Portree and travel to Uig to get the ferry to Skye. This journey is approximately 1hour 40 minutes. A busy day full of beautiful beaches, extraordinary landscapes and more as you visit Tarbert, St Clements Church, Seilebost Beach, Luskentyre Beach and Mangersta Beach. Discover history and heritage at the Calanais Standing Stones, Bosta Iron Age House, Whalebone Arch and Butt of Lewis Lighthouse. Your home for the night – Stornoway is a great place to walk around after your evening meal. Some of the freshest fish in Scotland is served right here.
Day Three: Lewis and Harris – Isle of Skye
On day three you will the ferry from Tarbert back to Uig to begin venturing through the Isle of Skye. The first stop is the Fairy Pools with their crystal clear, vibrant pools with mountainous scenery surrounding. One of the most photographed areas of Scotland for a reason with it’s high cliffs and attractive lighthouse is Neist Point, and the hidden grounds of Dunvegan Castle are to be remembered. This area has some lovely restaurants to stop for lunch. Throughout the day you’ll also get the chance to visit Fairy Glen, The Museum of Island Life, Duntulm Castle with amazing sea viewpoint and Quairaing – as essential walk for any keen photographer as these are some of the most spectacular landscapes in Scotland. Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls is a picturesque observation point before you reach Old Man of Storr. This is probably one of Scotland’s most photographed areas. (Please be advise a mountain climb will be required to see Old Man of Storr). Spend your second night in Portree after your travels through the wonderful Isle of Skye.
Day Four: Isle of Skye – Durness
We kick things off on day four at Applecross Bealach Na BA which will have you feeling you are on the edge of the world. You’ll see the towering peaks of Torridon before visiting the serene Loch Droma and Ullapool. Throughout the day you’ll also experience Assynt, Kylesku Bridge and Sango Bay before arriving at Durness.
Day Five: Durness – Glasgow/Edinburgh
On the way back to Glasgow/Edinburgh will see some of Scotland’s most dramatic and historic scenery including Lairg, Inverness and Urquhart Castle, which is also perfect for spotting monsters! The charming hamlet of Fort Augustus is perfect for watching the sailing boats. While Fort William is the perfect place for a wander around. You will see imposing Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain as well as the Glenfinnan Viaduct which was famously the bridge to Hogwarts in Harry Potter. Drive through the astounding landscape of Glencoe with its imposing mountains and valleys which has been carved by glaciers and an ancient volcano. You can stop off at the picturesque Glencoe village to get out and explore and have some lunch. You’ll also experience the romantic and serene location of Loch Lomond where sights such as the Falls of Falloch and chocolate box village Luss can be seen. Culminate your tour at The Kelpies, a spectacular sight to see in the evening as the equine structures designed by visionary Andy Scott light up with vibrant colour. You will be dropped to your accommodation at 2000.
